Well, I know I haven’t blogged in an extremely long time but here is my re-entry into the blogosphere! My wine drinking has dropped dramatically in the last year. The recession forced my pocketbook to choose more “affordable” bottles. For a while there were decent finds for $5 to $7 per bottle. I miss the days when I would drop 20 bucks on a bottle of L’ecole 41 Red wine and drink my cares away. Sometimes a good bottle is worth that price tag. Sometimes we have to decide we deserve it. What made me think of this is I recently bought a bottle of Sheridan Vineyard Kamiakin Red ($15) wine on sale. My friend commented on the nose of the wine being floral and I suddenly realized I haven’t purchased a palate-worthy wine in a while. Wines worth a swirl, sniff, and sip test. While it wasn’t my usual $5 to $7, I realize it’s time to look at those lower-range quality wines. The recession has gotten this wine geek off her game. There are plenty of exceptional wines in my price range, especially from Washington State. So this is my repentance, no more impulse buys. I will only taste to savor, hence forth.
